Fashion in Kentucky can be a little strange. I don’t consider Kentucky to be a fashionable city, but everyone claims to be an expert. Denim shorts are one of those items Kentuckians deemed to be uncool. It’s challenging, but I try not to base my style choices on other people’s opinions. People that criticize your style are trying to validate their own questionable style. So it doesn’t make sense to worry about the opinions of people that aren’t even sure of themselves. I had the opportunity to partner up with Express this month to style another outfit. You can check out my post from last month here. This month I wanted to try something different and base an outfit around distressed denim shorts.
My inspiration for this outfit came from Saint Laurent’s Spring 2020 Menswear show. Anthony Vaccarello is currently the creative director for Saint Laurent which is one of my favorite labels. Shorts have been a staple in his women’s collections. Vaccarello debuted shorts for guys in this collection styled with a pinstripe blazer and oversized trench coat. I love the idea of playing with proportions so I paired my Express distressed denim shorts with an ASOS DESIGN trench coat. To go along with the beachy vibe of the show, I finished my look with an Express floral print short sleeve shirt and classic vans. The next time you shop at Express be sure to use my ring code 8197 to receive $25 off a purchase of $100+ (exclusions apply).
